Scientist, Analytical Development (protein)

We are looking for an Analytical Development Scientist possessing depth of knowledge of analytical techniques and instrumentation who will apply their expertise and hands-on skills to:

• provide guidance on analytical methodologies and method development support for the multidisciplinary project teams
• assist with internal protein drug development projects through physicochemical characterization studies and pre-formulation studies, inclusive of CMO/CRO oversight
• develop of assays for characterization and release testing of diagnostic enzymes
• to assess the performance of enzymes as biocatalysts by measuring the conversion of small molecule substrates into products

Responsibilities include:

• Ability to independently develop strategies to deconvolute complex analytical problems and execute them to provide robust solutions 
• Independently design and carry out method development & validation following ICH Q2
• Protein assay development (HPLC, LCMS, electrophoretic and spectrophotometric assays, ELISA, SDS-PAGE, Western-Blot)
• Pre-formulation and physicochemical characterization studies
• CMO/CRO oversight
• Troubleshoot analytical instrumentation, including HPLC.
• Maintain knowledge of new emerging techniques and equipment to add to the knowledge pool of the group and provide input for all ongoing development programs and instrument acquisitions.
• Development guidance to analysts in the group.
• LCMS  and/or small molecule method development experience in GMP environment a plus

• Perform analyses as necessary to support the project teams

Job Requirements

• PhD with a minimum of 5 years, MS with 10 years, BS with 15 years in Analytical Chemistry or Analytical Biochemistry required
• Thorough knowledge of protein characterization/development (2-5 years of biotech/pharma industry experience)
• Demonstrated expertize in the independent design and execution of analytical development projects
• Experience in a GMP environment and working knowledge of ICH guidelines
• Extensive HPLC experience
• Chromatography experience
• Experience with biocatalysts and enzyme based assays is preferred
• Working knowledge of statistical tools for data analysis
• Proficient computer skills and experience with commonly used analytical  laboratory software
• Good oral communication and written skills
• Ability to mentor and train junior staff
• Demonstrated ability to work effectively in cross-functional teams
• Strong focus on quality and attention to detail
